Industry term

Embossing refers to the creation of an impression of some kind of design, decoration, lettering or pattern on surface of paper, to make a relief. In regular printing or an engraving, plates are pressed against the surface to leave an imprint, this would require male and female pieces on a die.
Cutting Die

Cutting de is used for a process generating large numbers of same cutting, creasing from paper board, which is a piece of wood board embedded with steel rules.

SBS, Kraft, CCNB

SBS is a virgin fibre card board, comes with mineral or synthetic pigment coated top surface on one side (C1S), if it’s coated on both side would be C2S

Kraft board is made from chemical pulp produced in the Kraft process, stronger than board made by other pulping process.

CCNB is one side coated 100% recycle fibre card board, top coated ply is made of TiO2, Caolin and Calcium Carbonate

The CMYK color (process color, four color) is refers to the four inks used in some color printing: cyanmagentayellow, black. Though it varies by print house, press operator, press manufacturer, and press run, ink is typically applied in the order of the abbreviation.

PMS stands for Pantone Matching System (PMS), a color space used in offset printing, also called spot color, it can be any color generated by an ink (pure or mixed) that is printed using a single run.

Color Sequence

The order in which inks are printed on a printing press.

File Transfer Protocol – A network protocol used to transfer data from one computer to another over network such as the internet, our technician would provide you with a ftp address, username and password, also would show you how to use the application of FTP where you input such access info for uploading or downloading files.

Color Bar

Color Bars essentially test targets for measuring printing and proof attributes, mostly located at the trim area of one press sheet.

Aqueous Coating

AQ coating is clear, fast-drying water based coating that is used to protect printing, due to water base, aqueous coating is more environmental friendly than varnish or lamination.

Spot UV

Spot varnish is clear ink and can be gloss , matte or gloss and matte, spot varnish allows you to highlight specific area of the press sheet such as logo or image.

Lamination (hot-melt lamination) is PET film applied over one side of press sheet, provide water proof protection to the printing.
